300 Megapixel photos with ICE

Today I became testing free Microsoft Image Composite Editor (ICE) panorama and image composition software. Software makes photo combination automatically from video or from couple of shots and support combining to unlimited resolution up to gigapixels.

I took lots of shots with full zoom. Combining zoom shots makes it possible to get lots higher resolution photo than normally. It works with normal pocket camera too, but for 30x megapixel increase you will need something like 10x zoom. (If you don't wish to make panorama)

That's what I got in couple of minutes, 300 megapixel photo:

How I done it?

First I turned my camera lightness adjustment to manual to avoid color changes between photos. I zoomed full 12x and started taking pictures with continuous shooting. I scanned landscape from window about minute trying to not miss any part of it. A minute later I had 30 photos to be combined.

Next I opened photos in Microsoft ICE using "new panorama" option. After about 5 minutes processing 300 megapixel photo was ready.

Camera used were Canon Powershot SX200 IS with 12x zoom and 12 mpix.

They are not made with ICE, but interesting examples of technology aswell:
